A key element of the Space for Personalised Learning project is the work we do directly on a number of pilots with schools across the country

The scope of the pilots ranges from small to large-scale. In a typical small-scale pilot, we look at the interventions a school can make at a "setting and scenery" level within its building to support the implementation of personalised learning, with a relatively small amount of money, from £60,000 to £120,000. The idea is to find ways of allowing schools to use Devolved Formula Capital or other sources of funding to help transform learning space.

This may be a one off intervention that aims to unblock existing spatial constraints within the building, or a ‘R&D' intervention to test new approaches to teaching and learning prior to a rebuild or remodel.

The larger pilots aim to be broad, whole school interventions that are highly ambitious in scope and impact. Building on the scope of smaller pilots, plus the DCSF's Project Faraday - which created concept designs for new approaches to learning science within a science department - this part of the project aims to work on new approaches to learning across the whole school, and aims to tackle fundamental assumptions around school design, within the context of Personalised Learning.
